MESSAGE FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT

The members of the Mattapoisett Fire Department have the opportunity to work for a unique and pro active Department to serve a great community of 6,500 people and 17.5 square miles. The responsibilities of Fire Departments have grown from just, "fighting fires". Today, we deliver and serve in an "all risk" capacity and are responding to a much    broader range of preventative and emergency response services than ever before.

While we work and carry out our duties to provide for a safe and healthy community, we are constantly reminded of how fragile life is. As a result of the horrific and tragic events on September 11, 2001 in New York and Washington, we all have once again been reminded that the business of protecting life and property has a very high price. The personnel of the MFD work day and night in harm's way devoted to making each and every one of you safe.

The men and women that serve for the Mattapoisett Fire Department do so with courage, energy, and professionalism. I can firmly state that your Fire Department will be prepared to meet any challenges the future may bring. They will be able to do this through training, education, and proper equipment.
